The wise men realize something significant is happening. They go to great inconvenience to see it.
The minute they arrive, the house is no longer ready to receive them as guests. The decorations come down, the welcome mat is pulled inside the door.
Their visitation is dishonored.
And yet, every year, they persist. They don’t give up on us. They return, and do their best to honor us with their insights.
We turn wisdom away at the door. We offer it only the minimal access to our lives. We treat it as nothing special, as an inconvenience.
And yet, it keeps trying. It does not give up on us.
Such is the miracle of Epiphany.
